Apparently the Nepalese see fit to slaughter hundreds of thousands of animals for their materialistic desires. Surely there is some Karma for this?

How many animals die every day in a typical industrial slaughterhouse? Modern chicken processing plants kill 180 birds per minute and run pretty much non stop 24/7.... you do the math...

Thats a lot of chickens and it aint no yolk how horrible it is. You know that those murderers wnot be experiencing any spiritual eggstasy anytime soon.

I heard a saying once that from the perspective of animals all humans are Nazis.

I have a bumper sticker on my car that says "Love Animals - Dont Eat them." Living in a cabin in the woods every night raccoons, skunks and possums come around and I always put out dry cat food for them to eat. My 12 cats are happy to share with them. In the mornings I bring apples to the 7 Arabian horses on the property. Once on a walk Srila Prabhupada asked "what animal is the most beautiful?" Everyone agreed right away that the cow is but Prabhupada said,no -- the horse is the most beautiful.

I became a vegetarian two years before I came into contact with Krishna consciousness. I dont understand how anyone can take part in the slaughtering of innocent animals. Have they no compassion at all? It blows my mind. Even on the mundane level in the matters of health, economy, ecology, etc. it doesnt make sense to raise animals for butchering and eating. Oh the horrors of Kali Yuga when humans are misguided, short-lived, lazy, unlucky, quarrelsome and always disturbed.

Sadly, from the perspective of animals all humans are millions of times worse than Nazis.

Hopefully some devotees will notice them and sell them a few Isopanisads or something. That will change their life if they read it and apply it. Now if that happens - what will happen to these people?
user [467] · 2009-12-01
If they come into contact with Sri Isopanisad or any writings of Srila Prabhupada -- and render submissive aural reception ..... think in terms of what happens in a dark room when the slightest bit of light enters. Darkness is the absence of light.

Godhead is light. Nescience is darkness.Where there is Godhead there is no nescience.

Just curious on the following statement
>Living in a cabin in the woods every night raccoons, skunks and possums come around and I always put out dry cat food for >them to eat.

is cat food vegetarian - does that industry not depend on left overs from slaughterhouse?
user [467] · 2009-12-02
Youll be pleasantly surprised to find out that there are alternatives even when it comes to cat food:

The cats love it (and of course they are free to supplement what I provide with their own hunting) ... and the coons just gobble it up.

Hey -- Im a guest in their forest and so I call everyone for dinner every night and while they eat I either play tapes of kirtans or I sit on my porch with my mrdanga and chant. It makes for a peaceful atmosphere.

>vegan cat food

wow - wonderful indeed. you are doing a great service - dandavats.

Ha! Srila Prabhupada described the materialists saying "they are not loving God -- they are loving dog." I hope someday I can come to the platform of such materialists because Im not even loving dog -- Im loving CATS. Theyre everywhere. They do figure eights around my feet and meow and climb trees and purr. I did have to finally neuter all the males and spay all the females -- otherwise its real easy for ten cats to become fifty overnight. Thats how we got so many cats. We never adopted or bought any -- two (male and female) came to our cabin one night scratching at the door. They belonged to someone on the property where we live but they moved and left their cats behind. So we began to take care of them and show them affection and then suddenly there was a litter of 7. We gave most of the kittens away but kept a few and they grew up and then another litter -- and one after that. After adopting out a bunch we still ended up with many (and Im allergic to them although over time Ive built a tolerance it seems). As for all the other forest critters -- it seems that when bellies are full all is at peace. Baasically its the same among human beings which is why Srila Prabhupadas formula for spreading Krishna consciousness is chant, dance and when you are tired -- take Krishna prasadam.

Anyway - the point is that I am not doing any wonderful service. I do what I can do these days as I am disabled. I keep a stack of On Chanting Hare Krishna and Krishna, the Reservoir of Pleasure pamphlets in my car and distribute whenever the opportuinty presents itself. If somebody shows more interest Ive got Perfection of Yogas and copies of a bunch of other books -- and even a few Gitas. Very often I will find Srila Prabhupadas books at flea markets and yard sales -- and even thrift stores and Ill buy them up.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada whose books continue to find their way into the hands of those desiring and deserving.
