Grhasthas accepting charity?

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2009-12-08 · 4 answers
One devotee, an old Prabhupada disciple, has offered my family plane tickets to come to the holy Shri-dhama Vrindavan. He is a close friend in such a way that he is almost considered a family relation. I feel reluctant to accept the offer as generally grhasthas are not meant to accept charity. I know brahamnas are allowed to accept charity, but I am not a brahamana. Also, he is retired, simply chants all day and does parikrama and lives on a pension whereas I have a job and can afford to pay for the tickets myself.

Or can the offer be accepted in a reciprocative mood of "daduc0u257 ti pratigrhnu257 ti : Offering gifts in charity and accepting charitable gifts." (NOI Verse 4)?

Vaisnava includes brahmana.
Id say yes. He wants to serve Vaisnavas, so you can also serve him. Great.

Deena, just do something really nice for him in return. This is what members of an extended family do.
