Hare Krishna!
I wanted to know about the ettiquettes related to wearing the "Kanthi" mala around your neck. Can you wear it while taking a shower or urinating, or should you take it off before entering a restroom? Also, can you touch it while you are eating prasadam? If there are rules that you should not do this or that while wearing the kanthi, what if you accidentally break a rule?

There seems to a consideration among devotees from India that a meat eater should not wear Tulasi. Does anyone know if this is supported by Srila Prabhupada?user [38] · 2009-12-16
I havent found anything. My experience is that those not qualified wont wear it for long.user [433] · 2009-12-17
Thats funny, Id never heard that commend from NityanandaChandra before, and about a year ago i gave a tulsi mala to a non-devotee friend, and in a few weeks it broke. Tulsi is particular about necks.user [154] · 2009-12-18
Kanti, tilaka and sikha are core elements of belonging to vaisnava. It is specifically mandatory for initiated devotees, thus one may say that it is not to be worn by those who are just the opposite. The one principle (before SP introduced four) that was required to be followed at the time of initiation is to refrain from meateating (and fisheating). Actually that was also a req. that Prabhupada put to his first initiation (and second in Sept 1966). In bengal ISKCON namahatta would make a special ceremony for those who start wearing tulsi-kanti. Prabhupada would refuse to perform initiation without neck beads (Mexico).
