A list of homo sannyasis? Former/current

Health · asked by user [] · 2010-01-02 · 6 answers
Can someone help in compiling a list of former/current sannyasis who were practicing homosexuals. I always faced a problem: where to house a homosexual who joins a temple, obviously he will feel uncomfortable in a brahmacari asrama. Now if a brahmacari feels very comfortable in a company of homo sannyasi, it often makes me uncomfortable. A good list will do.

Sannyasis dont have any type of sex life whether it is homosexual or hetrosexual. As soon as it is found that sannyasi has sexual life he is removed from sannyasa ashrama. So there are no current sannyasis in ISKCON who are practising homosexuality.

You are portraying such a wrong picture about ISKCON. By your question, it sounds like it is a common practice for sannyasis to be homosexual and be sannyasi at the same time and it is accepted by others as a free phenomenon. But it is not true. Would you please tell us the name of at least one sannyasi who is homosexual and sannyasi as well at the same time.

Yes, dweller-in-peace is exactly right!

Just like people could misunderstand avadhuta Nityananda Prabhu, evil and motivated people can twist the activities of ISKCON sadhus for their wrongheaded purposes.

For example, we now know that Kirtanananda das was not successful in maintaining his sannyasa vows. Yet, for some time at the start of the ISKCON movement in NYC, he was the only devotee sleeping overnight in the temple, even in Srila Prabhupadas room. Yet only a maha-aparadhi would use the weakness of Kirtanananda Prabhu as an attack against Srila Prabhupada.

Similarly, today, even if you can identify a "homo sannyasi" this has no bearing on what goes on around him. If he is a "homo sannyasi" who is a sincere sadhaka, he has left behind his former activities. And if he later falls from the standard, his fall does not tarnish other sincere sadhakas around him.

If you want to cure problems in ISKCON, lets compile a list of sannyasis who are pursuing krodha, lobha and pratistha. Those are far more serious problems than any question of whether some sannyasi may have put his member in the wrong place before accepting his vow of sannyasa.

At least a few. That is the history and the history repeats itself. Obviously you would not let a brahmacarini sleep with a sannyasi or even associate closely. But what about the same thing with someone who is/was not straight. It is an obvious flaw.

On this photo of the official inauguration of the biggest temple in Iskcon two are former sannyasis -- both homo. One got really in trouble, because his 9yo mate had to be delivered to local hospital with ripped rectum. Both are managing the project. Another manager is former body servant of one of them too. The presiding priest of the ceremony was a current sannyasi with CPO conviction. Another two sannyasis present are currently under investigation for the same. It has been estimated that at least 33 per cent of all priests in the RC Church in the United States are homosexual. In Iskcon it is much higher.

The problem is that current GBC policies only discipline sannyasis who fall down FREQUENTLY - with no definition of what frequently is.

------------------------------
Resolution 314. Tenure and Participation of Sannyasis (2009)
[Action Order]
"Whereas the Law Book Committee has been revising laws relating to discipline of all participants within ISKCON;

Whereas in the process of analyzing the law relating to reinstatement procedures for a devotee who has fallen from his sannyasa vows, it was decided that a revision was required;

Whereas Law Book Section 9.1.2.3 "Reinstatement Procedures for a Devotee Who Has Fallen From His Sannyasa Vows" reads as follows:

If a sannyasi frequently falls down or goes away for a prolonged time from ISKCON but later returns, the following procedure is to be followed:.."
------------------------------------

Is punking one disciple a month a frequent enough fall down that needs to be addressed?

"It depends on what the definition of word is is..." But can they keep away at least those who have convictions with CPO office or is it all open for negotiation?
