How to cure chronic rhinitis?
Health · asked by user [] · 2010-01-25 · 5 answers
Greetings.
I have been having chronic rhinitis for many years. I have been to doctors, received some steroid medications which do work, but have side effects, my GP even discouraged me from taking them.
The rhinits is worst in the mornings. When I wake up, my nose is usually clear, but within a few minutes of waking, it starts to run, and it runs for an hour or more. Which makes early morning chanting very very difficult, because not only is my nose stuffed/runny, I also cant recite clearly or loudly as I have barely any voice.
In the evenings, I chew some fresh ginger, which helps a bit. If I dont, my nose gets clogged up and I cant go to sleep. I sometimes chew some fresh ginger throughout the day as well, and I eat a dish made with ginger every other day or so as well. Im not sure eating so much ginger is even remotely healthy, though.
Has anyone had the same or similar problem? What helped against it?
Many thanks for your replies.

If I remember well, R. Moody http://near-death.com/experiences/experts03.html in his book Life After Life mentions a similar case. Regression helped.user [343] · 2010-01-26
I had a friend whose sinuses were so blocked up he was advised by Allopathic Medicine experts (local GP and a specialist) to have the scrape job done, where they cut you open between the top of your teeth and your lips (fold your face back) and scrape all the crap out of your sinuses. When I heard this I told my friend to visit an Ayur-Vedic clinic that had just opened, I said you have nothing to loose. They gave him some herbal tablets to take with cold milk (yes cold milk) three times a day for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks his sinuses were completely clear and he needed no operation and the condition never returned.
I know its not quite the same as your problem however find a decent Ayur-Vedic clinic...you have nothing to loose!

Several suggestions:1. Start doing Jal-neti. Just google jal-neti and see what comes up. You will need to buy a neti pot and some rock salt. Its a boon for those suffering from sinus problems.
2. If you live in a western country, stop drinking milk. According to Ayurveda, homogenized and pasteurized milk is the main cause of mucus whether that shows up clogging the nose or comes out through the mouth as cough. Try almond milk instead which is also very delicious. Also, research other causes of mucus according to Ayurveda and try to avoid them.
3. Start doing Pranayama. Pranayama, if it does one thing, it clears up the sinus and stops suffering from seasonal cold and cough. In the beginning, doing Pranayama may be difficult with the clogged nose, but perseverance will pay in the long run. I started doing Pranayama just 2 weeks ago and I feel totally changed -- my chanting has improved so much!
Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your suggestions!I have also looked up (suposedly) ayurvedic approaches to curing rhinitis - such as reducing or completely eliminating the intake of sugar, using particular spices, sipping warm water throughout the day ...
The hardest part is finding the motivation to stick to that routine. I guess in all these years with the nose problems, I have become complacent in my misery. Now Id need a motivational boost!
