learning to forgive...

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2007-08-03 · 2 answers
Bhakti Tirtha Maharaja says that we have to forgive those who hurt us the most.

How to work internally with this so we are successful in this attempt?

I see it as the person is not the cause of my suffering, they are just the agent. I am suffering because I did something to cause it and this person is just the convenient person to give me my suffering. But I do not end up liking that person, I just have indifference towards them. I still dont like that person because if he is there and likes to give me suffering how can I like him? Just my bad karma that I was in that situation. That is not forgiveness but it is the only thing that makes sense to me.

if you meditate on the different circumstances that forced the suffering upon you, you will see them as a combination of things. not exactly as one particular person. And if we are humble enough we can recognize that it has a source and an explanation; remember "karma"? :)
