Three modes of material nature

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2010-08-18 · 2 answers
1. We say that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the controlling dieties of passion, goodness and ignorance respectively but they are not under these modes (jailer visiting jail analogy). Any evidence (sanskrit texts) from shastras?

2. If they are not under the control of these modes then what about the pastime of Bhrigu muni?

When I asked a similar question referring to this verses purport http://vedabase.net/bg/2/62/ where Srila Prabhupada mentions that even Lord Siva is subject to "influence of sense pleasure" - how can greatest of all Vaisnavas and one of the Mahajanas mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam, I was told that "Laghu Bhagavatamrita mentions that there are more than one Siva - Isvara Siva and Jiva Siva" etc.... This indeed prompted me to ask this question on another thread.... http://www.pariprashnena.com/discussion/1258/brhadlaghu-bhagatamrta/#Item_1

Bhrigu Muni story is primarily meant to show the preeminent position of Sri Visnu. Logic of the lila is hard to figure out since it often outwardly clashes with siddhanta. Then acaryas arrive with their explanations.
