Is there a GV Catechism?

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2010-12-13 · 7 answers
Hare Krishna.

I was reading a bit in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and appreciate the form of this text (and also some of the formulations).

Does a similar text exist also for Gaudiya Vaisnavism?

Thank you for your replies!

The closest to this format come BVTs Jaiva Dharma (short version) and JGs Sandarbhas (long version) .

Do these texts have a popularity and relevance for devotees similar as the Catechism of the Catholic Church has for the Catholics?

Jaiva Dharma is possibly the main work of BVT so its very relevant for Sarasvata GVs. This one is closer to Catechism giving the basics.
Sandarbhas are the ultimate philosophical/theological GV works.

Prabhupada wrote Gitargan for bengalis -- very much for this purpose. I am still puzzled, why it was never translated to English by the BBT.

Its translated in the Vb (05.). But GG isnt catechism, its a simplified BG. See definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catechism

I have some additional questions, please.

Who are Sarasvata GVs?
I googled this term, but was confused by the findings.
Did you mean these: http://www.vnn.org/world/WD0204/WD03-7251.html - "disciplic descendants of His Divine Grace Prabhupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur"?
Are ISKCON devotees counted among these as well?

What does "Vb" stand for?
user [38] · 2010-12-18
Yes, it refers to all his followers, to distinguish them from other branches of GVs. ISKCON belongs to them.
Vb means Vedabase published by Bhaktivedanta Archives.
