Gmail problems - please help

Tech · asked by user [] · 2010-12-28 · 3 answers
Hello.

When I write an email in Gmail, I sometimes sign it with
-
With best wishes,

(my name and last name).
-

My account is set to plain text, and with no signatures.

Every time, I type out the "With best wishes" or other greeting and my name.
Later on, when the email is sent, I see that Gmail is coloring it as if it would be quoted text (but without the > in the front), and it also hides it, giving a link saying "- Show quoted text -".
Same has happened also at the beginning of emails, with standard greetings.

I understand that this happens with copy-pasted text. But I do not copy-paste the greetings!

I exchange emails both with people who use Gmail and others.
I dont know how the text appears on their end, but I am worried it might appear as quoted, giving the impression that I was so lazy that I copy-pasted the greetings. Which I was not.

I looked up the troubleshooting pages, but havent found this problem listed there.

How can I override this Gmail setting?

Thank you.

Yes this seems to be undocumented feature. Try signing as part of the last line or use Ctrl-Enter instead of Enter before the signature. ysccd

Do you mean Shift+Enter (Im on a PC)?
Either way, it makes no difference (Shift+Enter is for line breaks within one IM message).
Perhaps this is Googles way to remind people to be more creative with their greetings. :)

In my emails to you, do you see the titles and end greetings as quoted text?

No, it is feature on your side, only your name is shown colored as a quoted text.
