White sugar and its dangers

Health · asked by user [] · 2007-06-25 · 23 answers
I would like to know why white sugar is bad and its effects because I see that it is widely used in temples but it is not recommended by ayur vedic doctors.
user [2] · 2007-06-25
Some years ago we devotees here in Spain did a research on it and found out that is filtered through bones to get its white colour

The refining process removes fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals and requires the body to rob these essential nutrients in order to metabolize the sugar. It drains the body of B vitamins, chromium, zinc, magnesium and calcium. With fewer nutrients available, other necessary body processes suffer. This applies to refined carbs as well as sugar

i see...
user [3] · 2007-06-27
if it is processed through bones, an urgent message is to be send to the Temples.
user [4] · 2007-07-03
and all govindas too.
user [19] · 2007-07-01
to all temples, namahattas and devotee houses for sure...
user [21] · 2007-07-04
so they offer bones to the deities? I heard that once Lord Jagannath didnt accept the offering because there was a fish bone on it :(
user [19] · 2007-07-26
Isnt this a critical issue that should be addressed?

Offering bones to the deities is not a small mistake imho.

Kurma P.s answer to my query:

A nasty kali yuga affair. Luckily in many cities and countries there are
choices, and so, yes, I agree with the comments on the website you linked me
with on the subject: Check your manufacturers.

Here in Australia, bon-char filtering for sugar is a thing of the past,
luckily. And personally I always use the wonderful raw sugar available here,
which undergoes much less processing than nasty white sugar.

Hope this helps!

your servant,

Kurma dasa

but still this is being done widely. Just go to any Sunday fest program on any city in the world and you will get huge amounts of white sugar.

white sugar is not bonafide, it is bonified.
user [38] · 2007-07-26
You can: spread this info, check sugar source in your temple and try to change the provider, refuse sweets otherwise.
user [112] · 2007-08-08
Are we talking about cane sugar or beet sugar?
user [144] · 2007-08-25
White sugar is also very addictive and dangerous. You can easily die from obesity. When I was a sugar addict I weighed 240 pounds. I then gave up all sugar, flour and wheat and lost 125 pounds.

You will be surprised what has been done to food in the Kali Yuga, I have been looking into it for years. I could write an encyclopedia on it alone.

Here is an example: If you drink or eat ANYTHING that has red or orange food color it is likely you are consuming fish gelatin. That is a substance taken from the bones of creatures that killed that once lived in the sea.

Why? Because beta carotene is highly unstable and left in its natural state it will lose its color. So they use fish gelatine as a base for the beta carotene, a stabiliser.

Soft drink, candy (lollies we call them here in AU), food condiments and more.

If that has you worried wait till you find out the rest. Animal fat in ghee is nothing compared to what they are doing legally.

I am going to stop now, as I know this forum is about Krishna Consciousness so I have to control myself, but one more thing. You really should look into what is in commercially produced milk. It is pretty ugly.

Fortunately Kurma Das is correct here is AU the sugar is pure (pure poison but no bones) in the US I understand that if it doesnt say no bones, they are used. If you buy processed food you really need to read the label. I carry a card in my wallet that tells me which jargon on the package means dead animals are used.

I made a page at Krishna.com Food Channel to collect web based resources about these things

http://food.krishna.com/node/105

click on OUR LIST in the second last paragraph for a list of ingredients to avoid

[p]perhaps you should. not necessarily here, even though the issue is very much related to KC. how about offering bhoga that contains fish-bone-meal to krsna? and even if its not spiritually as impure (most things you get from shops are, im afraid), to maintain your body is part of your service, too.[/p]
[p]all the info is out there on the web, here and there, but to collect that in one place would be a good idea for the wiki, IMO.[/p]
user [40] · 2007-08-25
sounds good

A paragraph on the subject to highlight the issue and a link or links to the web resource that details all.

any agreement? or other development on the idea
user [39] · 2007-08-25
Abrennan, the link you provided doesnt seem to work.
user [75] · 2007-08-25
i think it would be nice if one was able to understand the main ideas without following any links (got a slow connection) and use links for really detailed stuff, like mystic codes used for ingredients, etc. and, of course, more background info for those interested.

but i wasnt thinking of horrible ingredients only; theres a lot of other info about nutrition, junk-food, and how it influences body & mind. i come across some of that occasionally, but i never managed to keep track of it, or collect it.

[p]works for me. perhaps your internet connection is as bad as mine, usually?[/p]

No, I have fast broadband. This is the message that I get "Fatal error: Call to undefined function t() in /home/bbosch/domains/krishna.com/public_html/sites/all/modules/singlesignon/singlesignon.module on line 127" And I have no idea what it means...
user [75] · 2007-08-25
strange. were talking about the same link, arent we: http://food.krishna.com/node/105, and then http://www.krishna.com/main.php?id=110 for the list.

tried it again just now, and it still works. did you use the link in abrennans article?

if yes, and you still get the same error, you should let the admin of the krsna.com web site know about it. there is a contact-form at http://www.krishna.com/main.php?id=421. if you cant get that either tell me, and ill report it to them.
user [40] · 2007-08-25
if you put www in it you might have better success try that

it might also be that there is serious work going on over there to launch the new Krishna.com things have been breaking and unbreaking again earlier on, I was getting that error myself last night

try a few www in it after http:// then www.food....

Yes Phani you are right it needs to inform not horrify, if you inform people make can make decisions if you horrify then they want to ignore it even more

another thing to make sure of is evidence of some sort, there are lots of lies and rumours about food and its effect on us.

somethings are too complicated to reproduce, there are literally thousands of numbers to indicate ingredients

and guess what, if there is less than something like 1% of an ingredient in it you dont need to know and the law wont make em tell you, that is how you get to drink orange pop laced with fish gelatine.

Another issue is the law itself, in some situations you can be charged if you say something that a cunning lawyer can prove negatively affected the billions of dollars some multinational raked in.

In Australia the Government is about to debate a bill on that very issue. Profit over people in Australia too. Money talks.

I told you not to start me

that error looks like the sign in function, mebbe they are finessing security.

Yes, that must be it. I tried www and at least krishna.com banner opened, but it still says"page not found". I will try that later. The link Phani Prabhu provided works, thank you :)
