How to spread the Holy Names worldwide:new ideas?

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2007-09-16 · 13 answers
The Maha Mantra has still not been heard in many parts of the world: sometimes it could be your neighbour!
Today is World holy Name Day!

the "old" ones are not very much practiced.. so...

What about mass SMS texting using free SMS gateway servers to mobile phones in random order... just a thought...
user [38] · 2007-09-19
Thats pretty much like spamming, no?

Some years ago devotees in UK were mass mailing texts like Chant Hare Krishna/Gauranga and be happy and someone even created a computer virus called Hare Krishna. I personally dont think this is the way to go.

I think its ok to give the Holy Names,by hook or by crook!
Remember the story of Narada Muni who made this cruel hunter chant :Mara-mara,meaning death? By continously chanting this,he was chanting the holy name of Rama!
Isnt Maya using all powerful tools existing to get the humans, mainly by television, sublimal ads etc?

Other simple methods for spreading the Holy Name:

1.Always have cards/pamplets with the Maha Mantra in your pocket, with some explanation and local addresses/tel no of centres.

2.Make all persons you meet say at least once the Holy Name of Krishna or Haribolo etc...

3.Go to slums or public gardens[for fearless devotees!],sit down[on a mat] with a pair of cartals or harmonium and just chant, with a basket of "simply wonderfuls"![ made of milk powder/sugar/butter] You dont have to be dressed necessarily in dhoti,or get any authorisation from temples or GBCs! They should bless all such endeavours!

4. Give vegetarian cooking classes in schools,colleges/universities/radios/TV,but avoid talking about Krishna directly:at the end you can reveal yourself.Veg cooking exhibitions can also be organized this way:no religion involved at first, but done gradually....In this way,muslims/Jews/Christians will know about non-violence and true religion....and they can even carry on chanting Jesus/Allahs Names. Intelligent devotees are already such programs.

5. For those who can compose songs, the Maha Mantra can be sung in all folkloric tunes, and be better accepted.A special DVD could be made with only Maha Mantra, with different folkloric tunes of the world.Other lyricists can also compose local songs/stories about the Lord.

6.Skype users are always called from all over the world, and so,can post philosophy, pictures and send videos...to China,Iraq,Iran, etc etc..

7. Any devotee can go to any distant country and start preaching to the poorest of Africa/South America/Asia [No "this is MY zone! mentality],using prasadam/maha Mantra as weapons.Such service is unlimited.

8. Put in bottles a paper with the Mantra [or a book] and drop in the ocean,in differnt languages, according to regions. Many became devotees by "chance"! ...but its not really by chance...

ha ha, next we will chant Hare Krishna in our minds, (hey, purifies the air waves). will send soldier devotee troops to distribute prasadam (oh wait, already done that), paint AUM graffiti in the ghettos, secretly offer the pasta of the italians, put a photo of Krishna in McDonalds napkins and chewing gum wrappers, EVERYTHING, but the direct and simple orders of the Founder Acarya. Arent we original and pitiful.
user [154] · 2007-09-20
My understanding it is not "how exactly you do it" but the amount of purity and enthusiasm that you posses that actually does the job. So in a way more direct the better, because you will show the component that matters the most, your happiness in chanting, but in the same time Lord Caitanya is attracted when he sees new ways of effective preaching of the name IMHO.

Chanting secretly in the mind is bonafide, and also powerful.Devotees in dangerous countries may have to practice this way,and so ,avoid harassment. After the invasion of India by islamic hordes, many still chanted secretly the Holy Names, while agreeing to live as a muslim!

Graffitti is ok....and can be the beginning of devotional service: suggestions: write krsna.com [or pariprashnena!on the walls or the Maha Mantra.....

Avoid Krishnas Name on items to be thrown in the bin!Or on T-shirts...as sweat is no different to urine!

ps. I also dream about a movie-big screen- of high quality of Srila Prabhupadas life, translated into different languages...followed by the life of Sri Caitanya!
Some characters, who were present with HDG,are still alive...and can play their own roles!
All profits to be invested,in a transparent way, into vedic villages, movie production company, etc....[Ambarisa Prabhu...are you there?]

The Christians are grandly exploiting the shortwave radio medium. These stations broadcast over a huge area of the planet. Hourly time slots are available.

Climate Change is a hot topic where we can give a philosophical explanation and a prescription - the sankirtan-yajna! We should be out there visibly doing our part and encouraging others to join us, rather than letting politicians define the response with "tax breaks" and "subsidies" for water tanks. (puh-leese!)
