Should the Jaladuta be bought and turned into a floating temple?

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2007-10-02 · 10 answers
Its the cargo ship that carried Srila Prabhupada to the West!
The Christians have an old ship restored, and used as a floating library and is a great experience for devotees to go around the world with books of all languages, preaching and enjoying themselves!

The Morarji family owns the boat.

"Messenger of the Water"

The Jaladuta must be the most famous Indian vessel ever. She carried Srila Prabhupada the father of '93Hare Krishna'94 from Calcutta to New York. She set sail on Friday the 13th of August 1965, and arrived in New York on September 19th. Srila Prabhupada got a free passage to America from the Scindia Steamship Navigation Company, whose owner, Srimati Morarji, was a devotee of Lord

The GBC ,or anyone interested?

Christians reliques of Christ and other saints are high prized and are worshipped in cathedrals for pilgrims....Many are fake, though!

According to Umapati Swami, our Jaladuta was scrapped. Devotees found it out only later.

It would have to be Jaladuta (3) as it was the only one of the three not sold and renamed. Also, it was scrapped.

However, I like the floating temple idea.
user [24] · 2007-10-04
nice - but impractical. who knows how to run a ship? whos gonna pay for the fuel? seasickness is real rough man.

Id vouch for small boats, easier to manage. One devotee I know, joined many years ago because he had this dream, to go around the world in a sailing boat, and devotees told him it was possible to do it in sankirtan. After 30 years, he hasnt but still, who knows? :)

If I remember well, in the first World of Hare Krishna video (done in the eighties) there was shown such a sail boat called Jaladuta 2.

yes, the devotee joined after seeing that video... hehe
