Should a book be published about the wonderful devotees of Iskcon?

When Srila Prabhupada came to the West,he knew he ws going to deal with the worst of human beings, but he followed the instructions of his spiritual master, while the other godbrothers prefered to keep on quarelling about succession.
He knew about the fragile constitution of the devotees,as well as the determination of others. He knew also that there will be betrayal, due to not following his instructions.
The book should be about those who followed his instructions, and still do,in spite of all obstacles and dangers.

...booklet then.... :)user [192] · 2007-10-13
No,such a book is not necessary, more books about Srila Prabhupada should be written, how about a big Hollywood production on Srila Prabhupads life instead?user [38] · 2007-10-13
I dont agree. Greatness of Srila Prabhupada is also seen from the greatness of his disciples. But somehow we tend to point at those less great. Maybe to increase our own greatness? ;)user [192] · 2007-10-13
Maybe VEDA can name some of these " great " devotees for us? how about a list of living devotees as well as those who have disappeared, like Jayananda Prabhu ,a book about Jayananda would be nice.user [154] · 2007-10-13

I think all departed saintly devotees should be included in one book, lets call it "Under the shelter of His Divine Grace" and everyone should get say 4 pages regardless of asrama or creed.

hariharibol, if you cannot see any great devotees around you, what can I say?Few of departed Prabhupada disciples: Buddhimanta das, Visnujana Swami, Gauri dasi, Hladini dasi (Africa), Namahatta das (skt Italy), Ram das (New Dvaraka), Tarakanath das (Canada), Ksirodakashayi Vishnu Swami (Vrindavan), Sri Rama dasa, Radhakunda das, Sridhara Swami, Kusakratha das, Mulaprakriti dasi, George Harrison (siksa), Radharani dasi (Didi Ma), Bhakti Svarupa Damodara Swami, Narmada Swami, Rudrani dasi (Vancouver), Samba das (England), Muktakesa das, etc.
Departed granddisciples: Yasoda dulal das (skt Sweden), Vrndavana lila dasi (IDS), Jagadananda Pandit das (Mumbai), Sucirani dasi (Australia), Goloka das (Germany), Caitanyananda das (skt Finnland), etc.
The list of living and deserving would be very long. Krishna knows them and history will remember them.
I hope this short list will not become a source of criticizing those listed...

Sorry Prabhu,I am not that well traveled.Name some great living devotees for us.
Shouldnt we be more concerned with Srila Prabhupadas greatness?
user [38] · 2007-10-13
Neither am I. These are just some of the devotees better known around ISKCON.During my years in ISKCON I met quite some very nice devotees in USA, Europe and India but I dont know more about their background and what do they do now so the list would be very subjective. Some names I dont remember anymore and youd probably not know them either. So I prefer not to list them.

Books are more difficult to do than websites!
So,theres definitely a need to know these devotees, that many, included myself do not know all of them,so it would be a good idea to create a website or for present, links to the story of these devotees, like an eternal remembrance in their honour...
Btw,I dont mean to exclude devotees of Gaudiya Math,as there are also very sincere and saintly devotees everywhere.
There are also stories of fearless FFL devotees distributing prasadam in war zones or in the jungles of Africa/South America, without being mentionned at all....as they dont have a danda or position.
I hope the GBC will make such a website in the near future.

That is a very good Gaudiya (or even larger) project to do collaboratively on a wiki. No need to expect and wait until GBC will do it for us. An example: http://wiki.gaudiyakutir.com/Category:PeopleIf lives of a significant number of contemporary devotees would be recorded in the annals of history it would be a great thing. Biographies of saintly persons are an unique source of inspiration since they are living Bhagavatams.
We have several files with biographies of our predecessor devotees: http://www.veda.harekrsna.cz/library/index.htm
