Dasa or "Das" (the bengali version with dropped final a) is for male devotees. Dasi, or devi dasi, is for female devotees. The Jagannath temple dancers in Puri were called dasis, or "(female) servants". They were misinterpreted as "temple prostitutes" by the English and so the word dasi came to be synonymous with prostitute. Prabhupada mentions this somewhere (use the Vedabase to find it if you have one). So therefore devi dasi is sometimes used to distinguish from this accreted meaning.
