Prabhupada on Christian & Islamic Yavana Scriptures

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2007-12-14 · 4 answers
Prabhupada Quote:

'93The sastras [scripture] of the yavanas, or meat-eaters, are not eternal scriptures. They have been fashioned recently, and sometimes they contradict one another. The scriptures of the yavanas are three: the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Koran. Their compilation has a history; they are not eternal like the Vedic knowledge. Therefore although they have their arguments and reasoning, they are not very sound and transcendental. As such, modern people advanced in science and philosophy deem these scriptures unacceptable.'94

Yes! We must follow Prabhupada at all costs. I imbibe this statement from our dear Acarya, it is simply the truth. There is no need for interpretation: "As it Is". This is a good comment to reflect on during the Christmas Marathon. Book distributors should remember this during the festive season, dont become sentimental to the Yavana scriptures - just give people a book of eternal vedic knowledge and steer them away from these unacceptable shastras as Prabhupada said. This would be the best Christmas present ever.

Though such scriptures have been touched by demonic editors, there are still christians following the rules and regulations of divine life as vaisnavas. They are the followers of Essene philosophy,in which Jesus was trained before preaching in public. They were vegetarians, did not indulge in alcoolic beverages, led a simple life, based on sharing between each other.
We should not forget that Lord Buddha came to reject the Vedic scriptures, which were being used to promote animal sacrifices!

Scriptures other than original Vedic canon are revealed acc to time, place and circumstances. So to discourage their following without being able to make one follow Vedic scriptures is adharmic. But this kind of conversion doesnt come easily and depends on devotees spiritual potency and receivers sukrti.

Regarding Essenes, see attachment.

"So as not to disrupt the minds of ignorant men attached to the fruitive results of prescribed duties, a learned person should not induce them to stop work. Rather, by working in the spirit of devotion, he should engage them in all sorts of activities [for the gradual development of Krishna consciousness]."

purport
"Therefore a realized soul in Krishna consciousness should not disturb others in their activities or understanding, but he should act by showing how the results of all work can be dedicated to the service of Krishna."
