There are many web sites with lots of long lists of things that should be avoided on Ekadasi.
does anyone know where I might find the rules as defined by Srila Prabhupada.

(9) observe fasting on Ekadasi day (this occurs on the eleventh day after the full moon and the eleventh day after the new moon. On such days no grains, cereals or beans are eaten; simply vegetables and milk are moderately taken, and chanting Hare Krsna and reading scriptures are increased.) (TLC 12)See also CC 1.15.9

Yes rasa108. is true.it do works still as a remainder and with the breaking time zones for each ekadasi place were you logg to actually. now, the fact that they do provide links to each remainder of the festivity was great to be read through right, the reason i say is down that Zealand'b4s site to is that those links they provide for the sastric source is not working... take a look, for example; Reminder for Friday, 11 Jan 2008Srila Jiva Gosvami -- Disappearance

please check it out those linkys, they are not working.. it says.. its an Whoops! 404. Sorry, this page is not available (yet)
OK, thank You.

Hari bol ,Prabhuji Many may not appreciate this but Ive found that the simplest thing is to just do Nirjala fasts every Ekadasi, not just once a year. It may be a little difficult at first , but the body eventually comes to expect it.
This totally solves the problem of what and what not to eat or drink. Eat and drink NOTHING.

OK Suryavanshi my apologies...I now understand what you mean...its a shame the links dont work.user [40] · 2008-01-14
Dear Gadai,good idea
I guess people should do the best they can hey
If you can fast then you should do it
if not you should eat as lightly as possible
fasting sure does focus the mind though and I guess that is the idea of Ekadasi
[cite] rasa108:[/cite]OK Suryavanshi my apologies...I now understand what you mean...its a shame the links dont work.
no its ok. no problem so if you see what is the Nirjala.. is Gadhai prabhu taking about a fix time to the dvadasi fast breaking ? like, not even there are too much changes or differences on the time zone schedules, either ways ?
or is Nirjala that one important that do all of them and round a year to be doing. i am confused, last days i was trying to explain to a a guy here who thought now that, in advance, that the idea of the eka-dasi was about to be broken at 12ish in the night. becouse you know i thought that the dvadasi is very very important the withing the schedules to be breaking it right-times.
i was traying to say also that the purana passtimes that are memorable to each of these prescise days of fast and chant also was/and are very important to pay the right attention more over the fact of that if you are chanting too. along the ekadasi day. i used to feel very high on or something on these days.. jaja actually, these we where speaking with my pal here.

Jaya Hari , The Vaishnava Calendar which I have accessed through krishna.com gives the time to break fast on Dwadasi. "Usually" the break fast window begins at sunrise and continues for 2 to 3 hours. Occasionally due to some astronomical factors of which Im not aware, this window may be greatly reduced. Recently there was a window of only about 30 to 40 minutes , so its important to pay attention to this. On the calendar page , you just enter the closest city from the list; then you can download the calendar and print it if you like.Every Ekadasi is a stand alone event. No need to do all nirjalas for the benefit. I just do as many as possible which is over 95% of the time. Once in a while , force of circumstances dictates a light fruit and yogurt intake for the day. Also now and then who hasnt experienced totally forgetting Ekadasi . One can then fast properly on Dwadasi and break fast on Trayodasi

Suryavanshi...I presume Gadai is referring to fasting (no food or water) every ekadasi as opposed to just following Nirjala (which is once a year)...in relation to Dvadasi, you should break the fast at the right time according to your time zone (in the vaisnava calendar).user [179] · 2008-01-15
yea, window i was thinking on that window really for a fix standard anyhow is about doing it right. i started doing them completely and i was very much sick sometimes pucking and everything. but it all gone now. i love EKADASIIIII !!!!.user [166] · 2008-02-03
For ekadasi the standard is to fast completely without sleep and increase chanting the Holy names and hearing about the Lord and His devotees...this is impractical for most but there are those in a position to follow no doubt.
