gaura purnima abhishek

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2008-01-22 · 2 answers
would you agree that abhishek is the high point of the gaura purnima festival? is this the case in all krsna conscious celebrations? why is the ritual bathing offered as worship to a representation of a deity so important? i need to explain this to non devotees in a short film i am preparing.
any insight will help me show this appropriately.

thank you.

Yeah but Im not a puja expert.

Abhisek is a traditional welcoming ceremony. We welcome the Lord to our home or a temple. Aside from murti of the Lord its also used for honorable guests (esp. pada abhisek, footbath), gurus and kings during coronation since they all represent the Lord (a guest is called atithi Narayana). Related to, or derived from it is an anointment of a king, symbolizing his investment with a ruling power to represent the Lord on earth.
