I know some devotees say questioning can get you to the brink of aparadha, but what is the point on following perfectly without understanding?

I guess that depends on who your questioning and their level of advancement...question the wrong person and you may be open to criticism, character assassination or offensive insinuation being directed at you - generally coming from the mode of passion and ignorance...from an advanced devotee it would be something they would look at in a serious and constructive manner, trying to help the enquirer understand why (rather than getting defensive on the false ego platform).user [38] · 2008-02-01
Even asking questions is a science on its own..."Doubt is one of the important functions of intelligence; blind acceptance of something does not give evidence of intelligence." (SB 3.26.30, beginning of purp.)
They should be presented for clarification in a way of pariprasna (BG 4.34).

Asking the RIGHT questions is the basis of scientific enquiryanyone can ask question, everyone does, but what are the right questions to ask, and who to ask it, that is the real question

Should we ever be doubtful of the instructions of the spiritual master and question him? (thinks of the tragic circumstances surrounding the murders of devotees on NV)

Imho, nonstandard siksa (not supported by sastra at the first glance) should be clarified by the guru and sadhus.user [166] · 2008-02-05
What about non standard diksa instruction...should we question the diksa guru?
