The local tea shop here in town is selling Indian tea made out of Tulsi leaves. Has anyone every tried it? Some of the tulsi teas have other leaves combined with it.

I did, back in the 80s, in our temple we did a couple times. Not sure about the correctness of the practice by vaishnavas.user [166] · 2008-02-09
If its definitely Tulasi there maybe some reaction for that...I always thought the leaves are used for offerings to the Deities and nothing else...anyone knows?user [166] · 2008-02-10
Ayurveda also recommends eating meat but we dont attribute the recommendation of meat eating to Lord Visnu or Danvantari....user [29] · 2008-02-10
Srila Prabhupada explicitly forbid devotees making tea from Tulasi leaves:[br][br]
"Never use Tulasi leaves or flowers to make teas or juices, even after theyve been offered to Krsna. It is a great offense to cook or heat Tulasi, or to use her for mundane purposes, such as medicines and ointments."[br]

seems that is not so clear, the shastric quotation or Prabhupada instruction about not drinking tulasi tea is not found (yet) in this question:http://www.pariprashnena.com/discussion/497/using-tulsi-plantleaves-as-medicine
