Why does ISKCON prohibit association or reading of anything or body that is not "ISKCON"?

Recently i have met with a former ISKCON member who is now part of the Advaitites, One of his main reasons for leaving ISKCON was that he was told that he must not read or associate with persons that are not "ISKCON" as in mayavadis, ritviks, etc.

and instead of trying to get his favourability back, the temple instructed other devotees to not associate with him, this is incorrect, but why do we do it?user [38] · 2008-03-15
There is a small book by Sivarama Swami called Siksa Outside ISKCON? explaining the issue you ask about. One should be able to differentiate a person merely tainted by apasiddhanta from a staunch promoter of apasiddhanta. The first one should be given all help available while the other should be avoided since his association is degrading. All theistic traditions concur on this.
