Arguments for not falling down

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2008-04-30 · 5 answers
The mind is such a rascal, it keeps giving us arguments that its ok to fall down. And that we shall be a healthy and balanced individual if we fall down regularly, and if we dont fall down, we are losing out on life and basically we are still the same person, so you might as well fall down and enjoy life.

What then, are the best arguments to defeat the mind ? What can keep you going under such circumstances ?

Wait until I finish my (nitya) seva! (Haridas Thakur paraphrased)

The biggest lie the mind is telling you is that by falling down you will enjoy life. That is not at all the case, just ask those who are fallen, You need to learn how to enjoy the life you have now, the life of a devotee. There is SO MUCH enjoyment in such a life. Good luck to you, prabhuji.

thanks kulapavana prabhu and veda prabhu... i am also trying to think of various other arguments the mind gives ... it would be good to discuss them because the doubts produced by the mind are common for almost all of us.

sometimes the mind gets so elated when something good happens in our lives, that it says to us "its time to celebrate" .. and what better way of celebration than "falling down" ??

Of course we should celebrate the good things that happen to us. That is the meaning of being grateful for what we get from Krsna. We need to bappy in Krsna Consciousness - that is a fact. There is no need for artificial austerities for the sake of austerities alone. Our austerity is japa and following the regulative principles. That is enough. We need to have nice prasadam, nice kirtans, nice temples, nice association with other devotees in order to be happy, especially in the early stages of our devotional life. Later we will find all the happiness we need inside our own Krsna consciousness.

Celebrate by being happy you are a devotee, by being happy with what you have. Trust me, life can be very, very rough. We need to appreciate the life Krsna arranged for us - it is the way it is for a good reason: our purification and education.
