Why cant we eat grains on ekadashi?

i heard it has something to do with lord indra and some sin? anybody knows? please share

but its exactly because you can eat grains on ekadasi you need to fast, if you could not eat anything then you will follow ekadasi automatically... :-)

i heard wen i was quite young, this may be very wrong, but from what i heard may not have anything to do with ekadashi directly, but apparently indra commited some sin and it got transferred or something into the sap of trees, womans menstrual cycle and grains on ekadashi? how true is this?
