Traditional tunes or bollywood tunes?

Social · asked by user [] · 2008-07-19 · 1 answers
I hear that sometimes devotees sing "traditional" tunes when actually they are popular bollywood songs that made it into iskcon somehow.
How can we avoid this?

I heard even sanniasis singing this movie love tunes thinking they are bengali devotional stuff.

Funny eh?

I do not know how to avoid it, since it was first Bhaktivinoda Thakura, who started using popular songs and to add Vaishnava words over the melodies.

There are two extremes on this position, I do not support any. I agree, that singing mahamantra on the melody of Stevie Wonders "I just want to say I love you" can be silly, but from the other hand, how can you be a sannyasi and not have emotional connection called love with Krishna, except its bigger and better then the mundane rasa, but still is the same function of the soul. Not funny eh?
