Hare Krishna.

Anyone could please help me get VedaBase 2003 running in Mac OS X 10.5.4 with CrossOver 7.0.2?

what is the problem?
user [328] · 2008-09-10
it creates the bottle but when I point it to the install file, it just wont go. I already installed a couple of other small apps in a bottle and tried using that but same thing, when I put the VedaBase CD and point Crossover to the install file - by any means - it flakes out.

try copying the contents of the cd to the hd and install from there. it worked for me on 6.2 but after a while it stopped running.

now i use vmware fusion 2 in unity mode for the rare occasion that i need a windows app.

i use it with tinyxp instead of the standard windows xp. tinyxp is only 60mb i think. search for it on the usual p2p sites.
user [328] · 2008-09-11
yea, tinyxp is cool. i used to use it before i became purified of microsloth contamination by getting a Hackintosh together. :)

...but Id rather run VedaBase in CrossOver. I already messed with vmWare Fusion, Parallels etc., but I consider them too much, too sluggish, too resource consuming just to run one simple app: Folio. :|

Any devotees out there managed to get Folio VedaBase working in Mac OS with CrossOver?

I have myself running Vedabase in xp with parallels in Leopard and is lightning fast. Plus the day I don'b4t want it I just drag the xp installation folder to the trash and that'b4s the end of it. How much RAM you have in your machine?
user [328] · 2008-09-12
RAM is 2Gb, which is generally plenty but once you got Safari open and Parallels starts up, thats it. No RAM and paging. :|

I heard from another source that tricking CrossOver by selecting Endnote 8 from the list of supported apps and then installing Vedabase works. Unfortunately not for me. Then came suggestion to copy VedaBase CD to HD and install from there, but it seems my (official) VedaBase 2003 CD has some protection on it that wont allow me to copy it in any way, even to HD.

Anyone fancy doing a bit of testing and reporting back? ;)

crossover doesnt run faster than vmware 2. try version 2, not 1.

2gb ram is more than enough.
user [328] · 2008-09-14
From my limited experience, using vmWare means first you have to start up the guest OS in the VM then start the app. With CrossOver, its more a case of just run the app. OK you can suspend the VM but still delay is there. My idea is to use CrossOver so the process will be as transparent as possible.

I repeat: I have Parallels for Vedabase and a few other astray software :) and not a single problem, running them seamlessly.
user [328] · 2008-09-17
Yea, me too. Parallels is one thing, but as I said, Im looking to a more seamless ideal. I can install Vaisnava Calender - a nice little agenda-type program made by a russian devotee and NOT vCal, the DOS-based thingy - and other stuff in CrossOver and it appears very quickly and just like any other Mac app on the desktop, which is why the interest in CrossOver. OK, Parallels will enter into some type of merged mode where the guest OSs desktop doesnt show on your screen and apps in Parallels appear to be in Mac OS, but still you have to start up Parallels first, then the app, and tinkering is involved. Is it a big thing I am looking for? Seems like all I attract is adversity (to the idea)... :)

i had folio running in crossover but it was slower than running it in vmware. the vaisnava calendar may me small enough to run fast but for me folio under crossover was not good enough.
this makes me think of another question...

Hare Krishna Mishra prabhu,
I was wondering what version of parallels you are using? I have the latest version and am trying to load Vedabase onto XP with no success. I am using a powermac with OS 10.5.8. Everytime I try to install Vedabase, XP crashes. Would you please share with me how you have got it to work?
