When I was in high school, 10th grade, I used to run 18 miles each day. The first 8 miles or so was difficult, but after running until I was out of energy but continuing (I ran 9 miles away from home, then had to run back), the rest of the run felt easy, natural, fun, and fast, like I could run forever. The first 8 miles were like karma yoga, running with difficulty; the last 10 like bhakti, running with ease. Similarly, when we are using up our karma working for Krishna, it is karma yoga; when that karma is gone but we continue working for Krishna, it is bhakti. The activity is the same, but the experience changes because we change our subtle environment by the activity, which facilitates a change in the internal mood of the activity itself.user [19] · 2008-09-22
