Is liking rock music compatible with being a leader in KC?

I happen to like it and want to open a center in my town.

...no,rock music is not compatible with KC at all,but you can open a "center" if you would like to.Such a center would not likely be approved by the GBC if the leader is in maya, you would just have to have a totaly independent center. There are devotees who use rock and pop melodies during their kirtans, but that is different,Prabhupada has given specific instructions on how kirtan should be performed, what is acceptable and what is not.Good luck !

As you continue to serve Krsna your taste will be gradually purified. Concentrate on your desire to please Krsna, not on your imperfections.
Best of luck with your project... people need such places to revive their KC.

Absolutely! BTW there is no GBC resolution as to be against rock or any other form of western music. I hope your kirtan rocks! ys

..." there is no GBC resolution as to be against rock or any other form of western music. I hope your kirtans rocks! ys ", rock music is " maya " , no resolution required.

I remember a Sannyasi (no names mentioned) who was listening to straight edge hard rock music on his mp3 player all day...it was obvious that it was affecting him to the extent that he invited a karmi straight edge band to play at the Sunday feast....all the guests were appalled and offended.

Seems we dont need to use this type of music to promote ourselves....people hear western music all the time, they want to hear something different and our traditional style of kirtan/bhajan is something that is different and creates the right atmosphere for spreading the Holy names.

When I travelled for 9 years on our bus program here, we had a western style band but we found that people responded more in the kirtan so we stopped the band and went back to kirtan and bhajan....people really did like it and more people danced and chanted and you could see they appreciated the mantra more, whereas with the band they just sat and listened like it was a concert.

I am not against mantra rock but karmi rock bands are not very devotional. Actually they are quite demoniac and invite ghosts and all that. Some devotees may like them because of rajo guna but they should not use excuses saying that it is good or not so bad.
It is maya, you like it, admit it.
