Think twice before you criticize

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2007-07-30 · 5 answers
Shoudnt people who criticize think twice before doing it?

I mean, I have seen so many internet articles criticizing this or that devotee in this or that temple but usually critics dont even know personally the devotees who criticize or havent even been to the places they smash.

They may say that they know it generally and that everywhere is the same but...are they sure?

Arent they just frustrated because of past experiences and thinking that no one can do it right now?

most certainly. criticizing vaisnavas, especially, is an extremely dangerous thing. one gets easily carried away these days, hearing or reading so many things without proper foundation or proof, and then assumes that it must be correct - without really _knowing_ anything about the persons involved.

i try to be very careful before i criticize. doesnt always work, im afraid, but i keep trying - in spite of some others opinion, who think i am a yes-sayer or accept everything without using my brain.

ys phani.

Yeah. Criticizing and faultfinding is a big problem. One can thus feel superior and blameless, almost a superman. But a Vaishnava should rather try to help and pray for improvement of that person or situation. Imagine the change if this would become a custom.

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

If you criticize then you are no better than the person you are criticizing.

Criticism speaks more about a critic than about the criticized one. Anon
