2012 What Does Vedic Scriptures say?

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada ... PAMHO

I have never been a dooms day believer and being a fallen devotee all one can hope to do in the face of inevitable death whether by calamity or natural causes is to be fortunate enough to remember the supreme excellent pastimes of Radha & Krishna and then one may consider ones life a success.

Much is being said about the Dec 21st, 2012 there are many ancient cultures particularly the Mayan and Sumerian calandars that end on this date or ends the cycle.

Apparently a new planet named Nibiru.(Nasa calls Eris - Greek Godess of Strife) has been discovered that is heading into our solar system or I should say closer to our solar system, they say it has always been in our system but takes a large elliptical orbit and is due to be visible by the human eye end of 2009, in the southern hemisphere and its full impact on earth is due to be felt 2012.

The USA has setup a new tracking station in the antartica (perfect place and perfect time) to observe and track the new planet as it will first become viewable in the extreme southern hemisphere.

On seeing all of this news or speculation come up I thought to myself what does the Vedic Literatures say about this time 5000 years into the age of Kali Yuga?
I found this in the Brahma-vaivarta Purana 4.129 This is a conversation between Mother Ganga and Lord Krishna, as Krishna is departing for his abode she asking what her situation will be?

Online Reference: http://veda.harekrsna.cz/encyclopedia/kaliyuga.htm

My comments or questions in [Square Brackets]

Text 49
"Ganga said: O protector, Supreme enjoyer, on your departure for the perfect abode, Goloka, thereafter what will be my situation in the age of Kali?"

Text 50
"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Remain on earth for five thousand years of Kali yuga. Sinners will deposit their sins in you by bathing."
[Well 5000 years is up? what is going to happen to remove Mother Ganga from the planet?]

Skipping to Text 55 (not enough space here but u can read in the link provided)
"O Ganga, the whole planet will become a pilgrimage site by the presence of Vaisnavas, even though it had been full of sinners and sins."
[This is Krishna directly referencing Srila Prabhupada and Iskcon is it not?, I do not exclude other families and brances of Gaudia Vaisnavas but SP is the one that made Krishna a house hold name around the world and making every major city (Iskcon Temple) a place of pilgramage.

"For 10,000 years of Kali such devotees of Mine will be present on earth. After the departure of My devotees there will be only one varna [outcaste]."

Text 60a
"Devoid of My devotees, the earth will be shackled by Kali. Saying this, Krsna departed."

Text 60b
"(Sri Krsna said:) Lord Hari will stay on this earth for the first ten-thousand years of Kali-yuga. For that time the deities of the demigods will be worshiped and the Puranas and scriptures will also be present."

Text 60c
"For half that period the Ganga and other holy places will be present. For half that period the village temples and the Vedas studied by learned brahmanas will be present."

[So for Mother Ganga one of the biggest rivers in the world (and many holy places) to be removed from the planet that would imply a fair bit of global warming or some major event
would it not?]

similar thread: http://www.pariprashnena.com/discussion/61/2012-end-of-an-era/

Ive recently read an article in which some scientist said there was a mistake in calculation - instead of 2012 it should be 2039. I havent checked any details.

Regarding Brahmavaivarta P. it describes Rathantara kalpa so the dates may be somehow different in our kalpa (Padma/Svetavaraha).

This Golden Age of Kali is suppose to last 10,000 years. Now Lord Krishna appeared 500 years ago as Lord Chaitanya, so couldnt it be that Ganga-Ma is going to last another 4500 years? Then shell leave after that, and another 5000 years will pass and then the Golden Age will end and Kali-Yuga will come back in full force.

It would seem more appropriate.

Kyros,

These translated texts come from the reference I have quoted. You may check it for yourself.

But there are three texts that are very specific here:

Text 50
"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Remain on earth for five thousand years of Kali yuga. Sinners will deposit their sins in you by bathing."

For my eyes and my reading it seems to state very clearly that Mother Ganga will only be here for 5000 years or half of the period that Lord Hari will be here.

I agree some parts of the Vedas need clarification by a very deep and learned vaisnava. But these seem crystal clear.

Text 50 makes the clear statement that Ganga will only remain on earth for 5000 years and Text 60b & 60c doubly confirms this.

Also these texts come from a very specific conversation between Mother Ganga and Sri Krishna (not Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) when he was departing for his abode, and we know that Lord Sri Krishna departed some 5000 years ago and Mother Ganaga was here on earth during his time. So if Ganga stays for another 4,500 years that will make 9,500 years, so that cannot be correct and to mix words spoken and times stated by Sri Krishna and to somehow append them to Lord Chaitanya is also incorrect (even speculation).

I have no dought that Mother Ganga will only be here for 5000 years, as stated by Sri Krishna, I think the only question that VEDA has raised is the calculation of the dates in different Kalpas which could mean the departure date maybe slightly different maybe by 20-30 years.

Its all interesting anyway, I was just interested to see if I could find any reference to some upheavel or major change at the end of the first 5000 years and this one just happend to pop up while searching online.

My post was based off of what VEDA had said about different dates in different Kalpas.

Im not doubting it is speculation, but maybe in that kalpa Lord Krisha spoke to Mother Ganga is true, but it could be completely different in this one, no?

Even saying it could be a difference of only 20-30 years is speculation.

I just find the 10,000 year thing too much of a coincidence.

HI ,

krishna talked to arjun , about the life of kali age as 432,000 Years.

And Krishna Talked to ganga , about the begining of satya yuga in next 5000 Years.

Few Questions i have

1. Does this means that the time passed between the Krishnas teaching to arjuna & Ganga was approx 427000years ?

2. OR does this means that krishna lived for 427000 Years long in age of kali ?

could you please directions for my understanding ?

Oh really? so now we have dooms day devotees? How does dooms day fit into the Vaisnava paradigm? I thought as followers of Srila Prabhupada we accept that death can come at any moment and in any form that is the reason for utilizing this human birth. I wasnt looking for the solution..Srila Prabhupada has already delivered the solution to birth, death, old age and disease, I was more interested to see if anyone had seen any shastric evidence to support global upheavals in the next 5-10 years

Uddhava, I did watch the video link and I saw no shastric evidence put forward, only dooms day style preaching, I did not know that had become a preaching style of devotees of Lord Chaitanya?

no, krishna lived 5000 years ago in the dvapara yuga. upon his departure from earth, we entered the kali yuga.
what is happening is the downward spiral moving up for a short time, then goes down again. at least thats said by God.

We have a whole video series on the topic, please go here to see the general conclusion. More videos on the same Youtube channel:
