Downloading all of ISKCON Media

Tech · asked by user [] · 2009-02-24 · 13 answers
Haribol,

This is one awesome site. I was just wondering exactly how big it is, could an Admin tell me the size in gigs of this site?

I also would like to download pretty much the entire site. I have used web site grabber software but somehow (might be me) they dont grab the entire site. I have seen your Srila Prabhupada goodies at the Internet Archives and can get them from there but there also seems to be other stuff here that is not there. In particular I would love to have all those photos for my own personal pleasure and downloading them individually is rather tedious. I would also like to read all the various ebooks here - not sure if they are all at the Archive site.

So, is there a way I can download most of this site for offline browsing?

Cheers,
Lorenzo.

Ive never done something like that before, but heres a link to a free software that may help.

http://www.httrack.com/

They also have a manual, so it might be a good place to start.

Yes,

I used that one - couldnt get going for me, not all the site at least. HHmmm... Maybe I should read the manual (gasp!)

Lorenzo

As the site is several hundred gigas in size, its not practical to copy it all. If the site would be in peril of going down, we would make a copy and put the contents for others to make a new one. In the midtime, just download what you need and as much as you please, we have plenty of bandwidth at your disposal.

Thanks Admin,

"As the site is several hundred gigs in size, its not practical to copy it all"

I disagree, Ive recently acquired mega-broadband, and it would be more convenient for me to have it all on my hard drive. It would be nice if there was a zip file that contained all the photos, another for lectures, etc. As it is I have to click on each individual file and "save as.."

Oh well, thems the breaks.

Thanks for the awesome site anyhow, and keep up the good work (service).

Cheers,
Lorenzo.

wget is good for downloading the internetz

if you have megabroadband and lots of disk space, wget is definitively the answer for your question :)

Oh thanks for the tip! Ive downloaded it and will get it going soon.

easy installation of wget for Mac users:

just indicate if you are on PowerPC or MacIntel at the prompt and you are done.

Iskcon media is an excellent site and I have been downloading regularly. I am not able to access the site for the last one week, seems it is not working.

Its working for me. Something must be blocking it. It could be your ISP or maybe you have some sort of virus on your computer that affects the host files.
