Is there any difference between Sakhis & Gopis....

Philosophy · asked by user [] · 2009-06-11 · 5 answers
...because we always hear Lalita Sakhi, Vishakha Sakhi and not Lalita Gopi, Vishakha Gopi.
Also can some one pls tell the order in which the 8 sakhis are standing beside Sri Sri Radha Madhav in Mayapur.

Afaik, sakhi (lit. she-friend) refers to gopis in madhurya rasa, not to elder gopis in vatsalya rasa. These also call each other sakhi though.

Is wikipedia a reliable source for giving references?

Depends. The refs in this article are genuine, afaik. Further: Radha Krishna ganoddesa dipika, Prema bhakti candrika, BVTs Dasamula and Jaiva dharma, etc.
